Community Support For Breast Cancer

Breast cancer can often be a debilitating and life-altering diagnosis affecting those afflicted and also their friends and families. Because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Sarasota HVAC industry would like to honor the friends, family, and those people who are fighting breast cancer by sharing the following breast cancer awareness information.

Raise Awareness by Wearing a Pink Ribbon

pink ribbon The international symbol for breast cancer is the color pink, or more specifically, a pink ribbon. Wearing the color pink or pinning a pink ribbon to your clothing shows that you express moral support for those people affected by breast cancer.

This includes whether they’re the ones diagnosed, or the family and friends. It can also function as a memorial for those who have passed away from breast cancer.

There are many different organizations that raise awareness of breast cancer or that are actively looking for a cure, and some of them use a pink ribbon as part of their logo as well, so if you’d like to support these causes, consider wearing pink or a pink ribbon this October.

Looking for a Day of Support? Check Out October 19th!

Even though the whole of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, October 19th is reserved as the specific day in the month to really focus on breast cancer as a diagnosis and disease.

This is the day that many organizations will choose to focus their fundraising efforts, whether that money goes toward raising more awareness, or to science and medical efforts to find a cure. If you’re looking for a specific day to donate funds, or to encourage others to support your chosen breast cancer organization, October 19th is generally considered the day of support for breast cancer awareness.

Breast Cancer Detection

breast cancer medical signsBreast cancer is a cancer that affects not only women but men as well. It’s a fairly common cancer, and because of this, there are a variety of different treatments available if you are diagnosed, especially if the cancer is caught early.

It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of breast cancer so you can remain informed about your own health.

Some more common symptoms include, but aren’t limited to: breast pain, a lump in your breast, changes in the skin texture of your breast, discharge, breast swelling, and nipple retraction.

Many of these symptoms, however, can often be signs of something else, or may not be anything at all, so if you’re aware of one of these symptoms in your own body, it's important to see a doctor. There’s a good chance whatever you’re experiencing may be nothing to worry about.

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer though, there are many different treatment options, especially if you are diagnosed quickly, which is why early detection is so important. Treatment options can include radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery, but often can also be hormonal and biological therapies as well.
